Rockdove Rising Housing Co-op

Rockdove Rising was formed in July 2013 on the estate known as ‘the Redbricks’ in Hulme, Manchester. It is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014, with registration number 32128R.

The Redbricks has a strong community spirit and a history of social and political activism. The estate community runs various clubs and events, including a communal gardening group, a communal bike club, an estate-wide internet service, a Tenants & Residents Association, a monthly community meal, an environmental campaign group, a monthly sewing club and a monthly ‘bring & swap’ recycling stall. Members of Rockdove Rising contribute to a number of these community activities as well as being involved in environmental campaigning, food awareness and promotion of vegetarianism, work with youth and homeless charities, unions, campaigns against the arms trade, supporting young people with disabilities,  squatting and the provision of affordable housing and social space in Manchester, and support and training to activists, campaigners, community groups and other co-operatives.

Rockdove Rising aims to grow as a housing co-operative and we also hope more housing co-ops will be created in the Redbricks and possibly join to make a bigger and stronger co-op. We believe social change can start in our daily lives; we don’t like oppressive relations between people, but do like when people empower themselves and realise their capability to change things. We therefore like to take part in building communities that allow people to have a good life without harming others; we like communal living and co-operation.
